A few days ago I was unexpectedly & swiftly walking through a local shopping mall. ( I hadn't been into one in years previous..) I suppose that since I felt slightly rushed that I didn't immediately notice an old childhood pattern; where when I walk under skylights ( especially in malls ) I sometimes get an overwhelming sense or feeling that I'm about to be sucked up ( like a vacuum thru the skylight and out projected into outer-space! )
Since earlier than the age of 5; I recall having a very unusual & crippling fear of mall skylights. I have a pretty specific memory of my Mom, Aunt and Uncle there at the mall with me; when they for some reason decide to let me 'scream' it out ( in an attempt to get over my strange fear? ); which they did; and it attracted a crowd of people around us, watching me scream for my life, while I dug my fingernails into the grout of the mall floor tiles; as I desperately tried to hang on to the floor so I wouldn't be sucked up into the sky. Yep, it was that intense!
I would just scream as loud as I can; while I tried to hug the floor and lay flat as possible. This fear slowly 'wore' off in intensity over the years; and at some point I even used to walk under the skylights on a purpose; as a sort of cheap sort of adrenaline rush. Since I'm rarely in malls these days, I forget that this still midly active 'Fear' is still functional...strangely enough.I've never heard of this happening to anyone else!
